Surrounded by the Ancestors, 2024, Indigenous vessel, sand, pottery sherds, 36" x 12" x 8"
Relational Maker KC Adams constructs a clay vessel using ancestorial Indigenous pottery techniques; harvesting, processing, building, and firing out on land. The vessel sits on a bed of sand with broken pottery pieces found along the shorelines of the Red River. A modern beading motif is added to represent balance. And red ochre is incorporated into the design to acknowledge the spiritual teachings of those who came before us.
